I don't think it is British, but I may be wrong.

Hi Tony. Looking at the scabbard and blade in particular, I am going to say that it is some variation on the Austrian Model 1870 bayonet. The hilt and grips are not the same however, but maybe it was reworked as an ersatz bayonet for WW1? I hope this gives you something to go on. I will keep having a look, as i may well be wrong on it being an ersatz. Cheers.

WG = Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft (Austrian weapons manufacturer).

Is it a Portuguese 1886 Kropatschek ? - made by OEWG.

I will check references when I get back from work tonight.

Richie, just checked in the Portuguese section of my reference book (hadn't even thought about it before) and yes it seems you are exactly right. Portuguese Kropatschek bayonet made in Austria.

A nice, honest Portuguese 1885 Kropatschek bayonet.
