Gentleman, I appreciate your time, and thank you in advance for any information you can provide on the item below. This is a item I inherited, and unfortunately, I don't have anyone alive that can still tell me the story behind it.

Help with identification of Brass Knuckle Spike

There is very little information online about this item, at least at the hands of my google fu powers. On one hand, I can see an auction in 2022 with what appears to be the exact same item. It sold for a good sum of money under the description of a WW2 British SAS Brass Knuckle Knife made specifically for D day. However, I also found a discussion where it was believed that the item never existed in the first place - based on the fact that no period documentation has been found to support its existence.

If anybody here can share any information about this piece, it would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Rick

    Greetings,

Complete "fantasy" item see top page here M1918MK1 These have now been around (made from surplused British spike bayonets' blades) on the market since the 1970s as such, more than enough time to have gained faux provenance from grandpa/father owning it for years etc. These are a post WWII construct and will always be. There is also a D-Day spike version without a knuckled handle and a more simple knurled round metal handle, which also have been around for decades. The knife as posted, regularly comes to market on auction sites and are regularly purchased at extraordinary prices.

Lastly, never ever view a knuckle knife with a US Mark I Trench Knife style handle and a British War Department Pheon/crow's foot stamp as anything but complete and udder hokum.

    Best Regards,

    V/r Lance

Thank you Lance, I appreciate the confirmation. It was with another re-configured knife that had a German short sword handle on a au lion blade. Similar garage build.

If you search for “spike bayonet blade knuckle handle” you’ll find several ones on offer. I found it interesting to read that the arrow is to indicate to the user which side to hold against the enemy. One never stops learning.

A "forward arrow" . You're right, I learned something new.

"Blimey Tommy, you got any bloomin idea which end faces jerry?"

If I were a Sergeant in a platoon full of Privates like these I'd toss the arrow and let them poke their eyes out!
