US M1 bayonet for use on the caliber .30–06 U.S. Rifle M1,
And US M7 Bayonet for the M16 (and others)
Great any idea of age
think the M1 was adopted in early 1942. the rounded fuller means late 1942 onwards.
the makers mark is UC for Utica Cutlery.
the M7 would be used vietnam era, and be 60's onwards i think.
but im sure someone with more knowledge will chime in and correct me!
The serial number on the cross piece leads me to believe it was put in use after WWII. That is not a USA serial number I do not believe. BOC is the maker of the M7 but I do not remember what it stands for. Nice examples of both.
BOC is "Bauer Ord. Corp", they made most of the M7 bayonets produced during the Vietnam war. The scabbard is made by "Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind" and is correct for this bayonet. A nice, original Vietnam-era set.
I did wonder about the serial number I'm from Bulgaria and picked it up in Bulgaria
Do you think that as anything to do with the serial number ?
Several European countries used the USA M1 bayonet after WWII and could very easily have stamped them with serial numbers. I am sure there are other members who will give you the truth on this matter. I just know that is not a USA serial number.
