    Hi Michael,

Interesting knife, is that a faint "U.S" under those grind marks?
    Thanks for sharing!

    Mart
Yes...and more but I can't recognize it all. I used my USB microscope for these new pics (didn't have it when I got the knife). Maybe someone will be able to ID it now

The last pic is "ST", not US

    Bill,

In this context what Mart is refering to is "home made" type knives. Not production. Something a soldier would have made for himself in his spare time.

USB microscopes are nice but I only use them if I have to as the resolution is not too good. Yes, they can zoom in, but not always so clear.

    Regards,

    Michael

    Mart,

    Nice.

I picked up one a year or so ago. High quality engraved "Berlin by Xmas".

I've been trying to determine the origins of the blade...looks slightly similar to yours....

    Michael
From the shape of the blade / groove, I would guess that itis
from a cut down Patton model 1913 saber. From what I have read, there was
a surplus of these and lots were used to form other knives.

    Thanks Greg.

What I don't get though is that the fuller on my blade begins and ends on the exposed part. If it was from a cut down saber, would you not see the fuller to through the hilt? It's a mystery.

At least I now know that it's a US blade from the new pictures I took.
