Great cond. bought for 20.00, there are numbers on blade shank but none on crossguard, green grey parkerizing,is this a correct ww2 cutdown from a ww1 bayonet or did a GI or someone else do it?

There’s a brief discussion here about modified bayonets.

It looks like a cut down M1905 bayonet from this page

I’ve also read about bayonets and knives being modified by postwar French forces, particularly troops in Indochin.

Looks like a correct cut down bayonet with a less common beak point. The cut down process was completed by Union Fork & Hoe of Columbus OH. The scabbard is not a cut down model and was originally made for a 10" bayonet. Very nice pick up for $20 TC.

Thanks guys, appreciate it!Think this will fit my Garands and my 1903a3 will have to try it.
I have its slightly younger brother, cut down by AFH (American Fork & Hoe). One of the grip plates is the standard black, but the other one is the rare brown variant. It too cost me €20 about 10 years ago (I picked it from a whole pile), sadly without scabbard.
