Picked this one up a couple of days ago for £95, hoping I've done well!

I present a rather salty later-production US M3 fighting knife. Marked Imperial on the crossguard, the most common maker at 854,015 units produced. The blade has lost most if not all of its finish, but doesn't appear to have been sharpened and holds its edge. The leather handle is pretty battered, with bakelite spacers at each end to prevent rusting.

It sits in an M8 scabbard, marked 'B.M.' for Beckwith Manufacturing Co, and has what appears to be a reproduction leather lanyard attached to it. There is a small marking on the back side, which I'm guessing has a similar meaning to the markings found inside M1 helmet liners.

Thanks for that! As you may have guessed, US stuff isn’t my speciality! And thank you John, I’m happy to hear my money was well spent.

Is an acceptance mark (the “flaming bomb”) stamped on the knife?

    Yes, on the pommel.

American combat knives aren't really my thing...

Is there also US Combat knives of the "M3" model from the various manufacturers that were not stamped with the "Flaming Bomb"?
