EK Knives were private purchase. I may be wrong, but I believe the earlier EK knives are very uncommon.
This is a very nice, original 'first generation' WWII John Ek knife........!
Apparently he only sold his knives to U.S. servicemen. Each had an individual
serial number. This one appears to have a very low number.
'1E 55' means "Model 1" - 5,055th knife made.
Worth quite a bit of money today - $500 to $800 - perhaps even more
and I'd guess you got it for a song - they are rather scarce,
and highly collectable !
Congrats.........!

thanks for the info .would you know if I could find out info on the knife from the serial # on it? also I only paid $20 for it. i guess I should of offerd more!
If you Google "Gen 1 John EK Knife" you may come up with more info.
I found a brief article on 'Ebay reviews', which tells about the history
of Ek knives, and various models up to today.
I have owned a few '2nd generation' Ek knives. The Model 5 Bowie
is my favorite, although I only have a 2nd generation Effingham
Model 6 double-edge Bowie right now.
I edited my last post - don't know if you read it all yet.
$20 - Wow, what a steal. The find of a lifetime !
Luck; Right place, right time.........!

Steve.
I have to agree . it's still worth it to go the yard sales , never know what you will find. thanks again for the info ,a big help!! lamont
THAT is a great knife. Early Eks are hard to find and are usually very expensive
if you have to buy one from a dealer. Finding one for $20 at a yard sale is like winning the lottery.---------Congratulations
The book "Allied Military Fighting Knives" by Robert Buerlein has a chapter
devoted to John Ek knives and has a lot of information about the knives.
Here is my Vietnam era Ek (bottom) to compare against.

I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.
Nice knives Greg. Love the Randall.........!

Thanks Steve,
All I need now is an original SOG to go with these other Vietnam vets.

YES it's TRUE!
This is one of my Father John Ek's original Commando Knives ...a Model #1 although the E series Serial #E55 is missing a digit -it is a very rare knife - and valued in today's market at $2000 - I would gladly repay you $20 for it !
