Looks like it truly has been through the war. But like much RKKA wartime kit, not that easy to find now.

The basic design did not change much after the war and soldiered on in the 1990's. Post war canteens differ in the screw top cap. At 1987 dated example seen here on the right. Note the number of threads to the cap.
