Gents, When or who were issued the M38 type rucks, versus the M41 (?) 'veschmeshok' ruck with long single strap?
Thanks, IAC

The M39 pack was, obviously, pre war issue. It was general issue throughout the RKKA. It was complex and very expensive to make. With the outbreak of war they tried to simplify it with the use of webbing straps etc but in the end this was dropped in favour of the simple veschmeshok which was much much cheaper and easier to make.
Cheers, Ade.
1. No such thing as M38.
2. All three types M36, M39 and M41 were adopted and issued for Red Army’s infantry. For other branches (i.e. Air Force, Armor etc.) turkistan type back pack was used since 1923. In late 1941 production of all types of back packs was ceased in favor of turkistan type due to its simplicity.
I guess single picture always better than thousands words
Thanks for the documentation Vadim.
Mistakes about dates come from Western books.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks Gents for info, IAC.
Hi Vaadim, sorry to reply to this old post . I cannot find "official" informations about M36 pack , very similar than german tornister. Do you have a picture like those describing M41 pack?
Best regards
Jean-Sebastien.
