Really have no experience with these but it looks like it's recent made. But of course I can be completely wrong and this is new found old stock.

Hi Nick, not seen one before, but I suspect it is new.

    Cheers, Ade.

I checked their website and it seems they are specialised in repro items. Guess that says enough.

Yes, there are two Ostfront militaria, the one in US specialises in repro but this item is from Ostfront militaria in Ukraine and has good feedback.

I see indeed. The Ukrainian Ostfront is more specialised in surplus items yet still I am not convinced by the stencil/marking on this set. To me the lettertype does not match known lettertypes. What do you guys think?

I can’t make out the logo on top right corner of the box, it says ‘something - Kaliber’ not sure if it’s company logo or something else

    Hi,
I am selling those sight tools on eBay (my shop is ostfront.militaria), so let me explain what is going on here.
First of all (and I really do not want to offend anyone), if one has little experience with those tools and has not seen one before, how valid their opinion can be?
Secondly, such sight tools and their boxes are not rare. Plenty of them are sold all over the world. Just google it. Quite difficult to imagine that someone would make those boxes and then would be able to ship them to all other sellers worldwide.
Thirdly, all boxes slightly differ from each other in terms of the size, colour of the wood, font, markings, etc. There is no clear pattern, but normally the boxes made before 1944 would have a slightly different design (see the photos). I have never come across boxes that would be designed like that and that would have a 1945 or later date. Plus, even boxes from the same year might have different fonts. Normally, the older boxes have slightly less neat markings (see the photo). Some boxes might have a Calibre factory stamp.
Fourthly, I would accept the possibility of some boxes being made later than the sight tools they are sold with. Possibly, some boxes were replaced during storage because they were no longer in suitable condition. Or, some boxes could have been re-used when it was no longer possible to use the sight tools they were stored with. In any case, those instances were pretty rare and the replaced boxes were not made nowadays. As I said, the boxes might look different from each other, because all of them were hand-made and there were no strict guidelines about making them. Thinking of making them nowadays is just insane, it is just not economically justified.
To sum up. The box from the photo is original. If someone thinks that my argumentation is not solid enough, I would recommend starting a similar thread on Gunboards Forums. There are many sight tool users over there. Plus, I can recommend contacting the user ‘ratnik' (Alexander Yuschenko) who is the author of several books about Mosin Nagant rifles and carbines. I am pretty sure he will be able to confirm everything I wrote here.
