"Tea mug" was introduced into the Red Army equipment by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR № 1936, from September 1, 1923 ( tea - since oldest times is the most popular drink in Russia) . During the WW2, the Red Army soldiers used steel, aluminum and enamel mugs of various shapes and colors. A characteristic feature of most mugs prewar and wartime - handle, made in the form of "half of heart":

Modern (2015) aluminium mug, manufactured in the "Demidovsky plant" (Kamensk-Uralsk city). Handles also has a flat shape. Mugs of this type are often issued for the "original WW2".

    Modern "supermarket" marking:

In most cases, the postwar aluminium mugs have handles with "stamping" in the center:

    Postwar marking:

Marking "РККА 1939" - was applied to the mug of postwar production. It's a fake!

That's all, I hope that it was somewhat useful for someone.
