Black enamel US canteen 1942 info help

Article about: Steel canteen with a black enamel finish,looks like maybe it was dipped.White ink stamped on bottom,looks like it is steel not aluminum.

    Thanks guys!Didnt pay anymore for it than a regular canteen,wish it had the cup and mess kit!

    Default US Model 1942 Enamelled canteen

    Igniting another old thread. Here’s my example of 1942, war salvage. The canteen is a bit rusty but no holes and maker marked to S M Company, 1942. The plastic lid is the type with sides fluted top to bottom.

    I'm still on the hunt for an Ethocel example from 1943, although I don't think these were necessarily ever used in theatres of operations.

    I've never seen one in the wild myself. Just photos.

    A number of years ago I found a box of enamel canteens and some ethocel canteens at a Western saddle blanket store. They were under a shelf in one of the backrooms and I talked to the owner who said I could have the canteens for $1.00 each. There were about 25 canteens in the box.. I may have some old images of them..

    I sold off most of them but I may have a few still...
