I am under the impression that the general consensus is that British troops as a whole blancoed their webbing during WW2, but was that practice absolutely universal?

I have quite a lot of photos of British servicemen at home, all taken at Arromanches' Mulberry harbour in 1944, and I am not always convinced that their webbing had been systematically blancoed, although, of course, black & white shots may be misleading.

To blanco, or not to blanco? That is my question. To blanco, or not to blanco? That is my question. To blanco, or not to blanco? That is my question. To blanco, or not to blanco? That is my question.

Maybe some of you on here can tell me more?
