    That's a big net.
Looks to be in great condition for its age.

What would that have been used to cover?

Cheers Phil, it was used under your hoochie (Tent section/shelter)

That's great Rene. I would think not many left in that condition. Post war the sort of thing that would have seen use with campers, and eventually discarded.

Rene, what you have there isn't actually a shelter it is the late war lightweight ground sheet which was part of the capes shelter set up (it was the floor) which consisted of a capes/shelter, that ground sheet and a modified mosquito net that was angled at the top. Two sets would be put together to form a tent. I believe they came too late in the war to see service but saw a lot of use in Korea and the 1950's/60's until it was replaced by the hootchie.

Capes shelter in use in Korea. The dig cleaning his rifle is sitting on the groundsheet.

No worries mate. Problem is there is next to zero information about a lot of this stuff.
The shelters/tents we were issued and used in the Pacific were the actually US made, US issue pup tents as well as the standard rain cape/ground sheet .

Found my unused mozzie net. Looks like it may have the same V code stamp as yours Rene? Darker fabric I think. Did Aussie Disposals have a crate of these unused at one stage? Also my head gear mosquito net in the top photo, a bit better stamped.
