Normandy beach find

Article about: While exploring Normandy beaches (Sword,Juno) in 1970 I found in the beach sand what appears to be the front of an exploded mortar. Would very much like to know what it is. Photo attached. F

    While exploring Normandy beaches (Sword,Juno) in 1970 I found in the beach sand what appears to be the front of an exploded mortar. Would very much like to know what it is. Photo attached.
    For reference, what you see is about 2.5 inches in diamer and about 5 inches long. Very heavy for its size. Would be nice to finally know what this is...
