I had 2 boxes NOS of these about 15 years ago .

One box marked 1943 , but all came with no belt attachment .
The other box marked 1945 were all modified with belt attachment . See Pics.
As far as I know they were repurposed P37 gear for National Service use.

    Cheers Rick

From what I read about the Australian in Malay emergency 50s. Was that they were fitted out with p44 webbing as we were there to support the English. And we're not sent alone. But a lot of these guys brought there kit through to Vietnam. The Cambera war momerial has a lot of vets kit from that time period and lot of it is p44 webbing. But I could not find the water bottle carrier that you posted in there invortary.

Also I worked with a guy that was a NASHO in the 60s he told me all there kit was WW2 stuff water bottle to basic pouches and even the helmet. As I showed him images of p37 webbing. It run here from 1951-1972. I believe Rene is right this type of kit was reperpest in the early 60s

Ok these images are of each year 1967 1968 1969 and 1970 of NATIONAL service men in Australian. I found each year and dates but on image you can see the water bottle carrier. And note p37 webbing.
But the image from1970 they have the p56 webbing.
Unfortunately I could only find one image that you could see the side were the water bottle sits. As for some reason all the other images ore the other side.
But not shore witch order the images will come out. But I think you guys we see.

Interesting point Geelong and seems to confirm this photo of New Zealand SAS in Malaya with 1944 pattern water bottle.

That's brilliant Rene. I think the story and sequence of development is now clear.
