Possible 2nd Welsh Guards holster?

I'd be interested in any thoughts on this. Bought from someone who says he found the holster, book and cigarettes in a box in the loft during a house clearance years ago. He was told the man who'd lived there served in the 'Welsh Armoured Guards', hence me thinking of the Guards' Armoured Recce Regiment.

The strap modification is interesting and there's what could be the letters 'McQ' on the back. As well as the oil or grease marks inside the holster, there's what looks like a handwritten '44', though it would have had to be a very short pencil.
