I don't recall ever receiving ear protectors while I was in the army, and being artillery... our 40/70 Bofors guns went with quite a bang. But it wasn't the guns that gave me severe tinnitus, it was being 10 feet away from an IED when it went off!
Especially when they were asking for volunteers!
My Dad did his National Service in the 50's on the Bofors at Puckapunyal. He always sat on the same side, so his hearling loss is only on the barrel side.
Anyway the Q Store couldn't issue these tins because somebody else may need them!
