shell case markings

Anyone know what the markings on this shell case are for??

Looks to me like thats a shell case from a French 75mm field gun. Also looks to be 1917 dated.

These are quite common shells and you often see them made into trench art. Is this one trench art?

No, just a standard shell case, picked it up in a load of militaria at a local house clearance shop, just going through it all now.

There's an enfield stripper clip in there too, with 5 spent rounds, none of these have any markings on the base either, which is a bit weird as I thought they would be dated and /l\ marked? can you think of any reason why they wouldn't be?
