A friend of mine was given this when clearing a house along with a 1947 clothing book and a Wilson's medicated 99 snuff box.

It's obviously a screw for something and must be important to have it's own case, just no idea what for or even if it's war time. Did think Maritime but only a guess.

    Any ideas?

Looks like a tap to screw into a beer barrel.

That's an odd ball curiosity to be sure Stefan. The head looks like a old valve or tap? The elaborate case make me think it's possibly a salesman sample of some sort? What is the approximate size? Best regards.

I think you're pretty much spot on A very similar looking stainless steel spigot tap for wine/whiskey barrels sold on eBay recently:

Be really interesting to know if the brass unit pictured top of post separates into 2 pieces like the eBay version above??

Well that certainly looks like it, shame the fleabay link doesn't show the item.
Just waiting for my friend to come back to me with a size and see if it's hollow etc.

Thanks for your endeavours, much appreciated.
