I was wondering if anyone might be able to help identify what this optic might have been from? It appears to have a weaver rail type mounting dovetail on the bottom. The main part appears to be painted cast brass.

It was part of some items left by a WWII veteran so I would assume it is WWII or previous vintage.

It's the optical sight of a WW2 era Japanese types 96 and 99 LMG. They go for between $350-$450 a piece, which is rather nice....

That is nice... The Japanese origin makes sense, he was in the pacific theater and also brought back an early Model 99 series 3 with the AA sights, dust cover, full mum etc. Thank you for all your help...
