    Default US Soldiers serial number?

I found this U.S. spoon some time ago in Germany. It was found in a foxhole. On the backside of the spoon is a number: 0833. Somebody told me this is a soldiers number. My first question is, is this true? I tried to find information about this number, but I didn't find anything. If this is a serialnumber or anything like that, where can I find information about it?
I hope someone will be able to answer these questions. Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

It is the last four digits of the soldiers serial number. So sadly it cannot reveal who the original owner was. It was common practise to mark uniform clothing etc with the last four numbers.

    Still a nice find.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for you answer. Too bad it won't reveal a name.

In addition to my first questions: does anyone know where I can find specific information about regiments? By that I mean information about the soldiers who served in a specific regiment. I did some research on the area where I found the spoon, and I know wich regiments fought in that area. It should be possible to find a soldier whose serialnumbers end with these last four digits. The only problem is to find a list of men who fought there..
