Hello fellow collectors of history. I recently came upon this USN MD marked pouch that is very similar to the Army type, however this pouch has only one popper stud to secure it.

The contents, scissors and scalpel and one armoured suture are not dated but USN marked. Please can anyone confirm whether this item dates to WW2 or is it perhaps later?
    Happy collecting!

It is WW2 era IMO. Naval doctor/corpsman surgical set. The basic stitch them up and get them to stop bleeding to allow more time to get to advanced care. I keep a modern set with up to date items in my personal kit. Not much need now as long as you carry a couple CAT tourniquets and a couple sizes Israeli bandages. I would not field suture anything unless more than 12 hours away from ALS.

Thank you Bill, is your Uncles kit the same or similar to this one? I'm curious to know how the two compare. I don't know whether the contents were standard or if there was a card describing the contents?

Thank you Bill for taking time to post pictures of your Uncles pocket MD case.

My own example appears to have the following printed on the front flap face " Case, Pins, Scissors & Dressing.... (last word isn't legible).

From the contents of your Uncles set I would assume I'm missing one pair of scissors.

Many thanks to you Bill and John for your interest and comments, they are much appreciated.
