A variation on a common 37 Webbing item.

I came across some of these recently, in fact I didn't realise that I had them until I noticed they looked a little short compared to the standard run of the mill cover. Actually there first contract Sleeve or Bucket type Water bottle covers, the reason for the short length is simple, as with many web items the webbing has to be woven to a specific width to make that product, and its appears that some of the initial contractors for making these covers did not hold the correct width of webbing in stock, and so used the next best thing from the stores which matched the sealed pattern supplied by the government. As to dates well all the ones I have are 1941 date and from the same manufacturer.

Hi Nige,

I had heard/read somewhere years ago that there was a shorter version of the enclosed w/bottle carrier, but have never seen one before now.
Like a lot of these things, I put it down to "urban myth" and being sceptical until proven otherwise if you like.
