If it was a 'regular' not stamped -only 'short' and 'long' (S and L)-the rifle butt for the Lee Enfield was the same-branded with an L or S on top of the stock but not for the standard length.

The stuff was meant to last under the most brutal of conditions-when new (that is unused) the material is stiff-repro stuff is much more pliable and wont wear anything like as well.

There are a few exceptions to this general rule though and it usually refers to Indian made 37ptn W/E which is usually made from a thinner, inferior cotton webbing, but, in my opinion, it is no less desirable, just getting very, VERY rare in anywhere near good condition.

That is nothing to be concerned about: the webbing can shrink.
