It's not something I know a lot about but presumably the Schule für Brieftaubenwesen was linked to signals and were still used even though there was radio technology. The wear to the holes looks original from what I see.

That would make sense about them being linked to signals. Here is a picture I found online, notice the 'Funker Blitz' on his upper arm.

Some 5 years ago I sold a SS pigeon ring that was found by a guy in Holland. It was published in one of the Dutch metal detecting magazines, with the story of the ring and the guys photo who found it. I no longer have a copy of the mag or a photo of the ring, but will see if the guy who bought it still has it.
