26/8/1939 in Elbing WK1 (Wehr Kreis 1) gegründet.

Sept. 1940 nach Wischau in das Protecktorat (Böhmen – Mähren) versetzt, dann nach Kremsier/Mähren verlegt ; von dort 22/07/1941 zurück in den WK1 nach Sudauen (Suwalki).

15/09/1942 geteilt in Ers. und Ausb. Btl.

Seit 20/11/1942 bennant : Grenadier – Ers. bzw. Ausb. Btl. 400

5/04/1943 Beide Btle. Vereinigt.
Jetzt Gren. Ers. und Ausb. Btl. 400 in Augustowo – Jan. 1945 in Allenstein.

Unterzetzt : Juli 1941 - Div. 151
20/09/1942 – Div. 141
- Div. 461 WK1

Ersatztruppe für die 228 Inf. Div.
1944 Ersatztruppe für die 121 Inf. Div.

Fair point Daarom, for sure the cord is attached to the bottom of the ekm rather than the top half an the KvK attached later, we will never know by whom or when.
