The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Hello guys,
It's just a question.
Is this dog tag notation correct?
The dog tag in the text is : 4. Kompanie Panzer Füsilier Bataillon (gepanzert) Großdeutschland.
I mean, 4. Kompanie I.Bataillon (gp) / Panzer-Fusilier Regiment.
Why is it marked for Füsilier Bataillon, not Füsilier Regiment??

The stamping is correct for the unit, it did become a Regiment sized unit from late 1944, but all the EKM I have seen have always been marked as per the units initial formation.

Hi my friend
Thanks for your comment.
So, was it issued in 1942? the hole looks like stainless steel material. Is that right?
Best regards
S.W.

From the picture I'd say the material this one is made of is Alu, based on the apparent corrosion. Nirostahl would not corrode like that. Not easy to say when it was issued either but it could easily be from 1942 onwards.
-
..stainless steel is non-magnetic ....however, after all these years, maybe the properties have changed....or something....if it wasn't stainless steel, I'm guessing it would be much more corroded
-
ALL german WW2 stainless steel tags are magnetic.
This one is it for sure too. It's a typical stainless steel blanc.
