How common is uneven lettering?

No authenticity questions on this one, but how common is it to find lettering be uneven? I've seen some really straight and other all over the board like this. Are they machined, engraved by hand or could be both?

I get the general gist of these but what does the 964 indicate?

What about the 4? Company?

I understand Abteilung usually means unit, generally of battalion size so would it be 4th Company Panzer Replacement Battalion 7?

I actually did take a look there but I wasn't sure if it was referring to 4th company or 4th Panzer Brigade.

Yours is to 4th Kompanie of Pz Ersatz Abteilung 7. Uneven letters are not uncommon, not every soldier tasked with stamping them would do so tidily.
