With the mods blessing and by piggybacking onto the OP's thread ( if that too is OK ) here is a list of what can & can't be seen in the 'half tag' photos I posted. These all came from the one seller in Poland a few years ago. Great that the soldiers can be traced from these numbers - and surely then the OP's tag can also be sleuthed for him?
STALAG 318 (VIII F) Nr 36547
STALAG 318 (VIII F) Nr 99028
STALAG 318 (VIII F) Nr 64577
STALAG 318 (VIII C) Nr 6335 ( Reissued - originally stamped 53622 )
STALAG 318 (XVII B) Nr 80024
STALAG 318 NR 13770
STALAG 308 Nr 02445
STALAG 344 Nr 32588
STALAG 338 Nr 00205
STALAG 348 Nr 7107

Hi Dan,
I'm afraid that Dickson happens to be the only one I can positively identify! Bear in mind that the list I am searching on ancestry is only British army POW's. The only other person on the list that almost matches up is:
Private H K French, DLI, service no. 4452812, POW no. 13770, STALAG 344, Lambinowice (your tag is for STALAG 318 - also Lambinowice, aka Lamsdorf).
Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom for taking the time to do this.
Ancestry is not cheap: I am on it too.
Cheers, Ade.

Likewise Tom, much appreciated!

Hey! This is my thread
Just kidding great work guys!
Doing some searching myself tonight revealed that most of mine were in Poland or the Ukraine and housed mainly Russian POWs .... no chance of records for them!
STALAG 308 ( Sumy, Ukraine from July 1942 )
STALAG 318 (VIII F) ( Lamsdorf, Poland from 1941-June 1943 ) ....344 was also in Lamsdorf just to the south.
STALAG 318 (VIII C) ( Sagan, Poland from October 1939 - Feb 1945 )
STALAG 318 (XVII B) ( Krems, Austria from October 1939 - March 1945 ) - this housed 4,000 US airmen 1943-45.
STALAG 338 ( Kriwoj Rog, Ukraine from Jan 1942-Feb 1943 )
STALAG 344 ( Lamsdorf, Poland just south of 318 (VIII-F ) Nov 1943 - March 1945
STALAG 348 ( Dnjepropetrowsk from Jan 1942-Feb 1943 and then Gaissin until August 1943 - both in Ukraine )
Here is where I found this - German Stalag Camps
Congrats to kirederf7 for his complete one - STALAG VI-F ( Munster, Germany ) Sept 1944 - early 1945
Regards, Dan
