Hi, I've found this EKM with my metal detector yesterday. It was bent like a sandwich. Unfortunately, While I was straightening, it broke. It's always tough to decipher a zinc erkennungsmarke because the writing usually are oxidated. If I read well, the abbreviations are 4/N. ER. BAT. MOT 51 all in Caps. Why is it "Er" instead of "Ers" and "bat" instead of Batl or battr? Is is a slash or a "I" for infantry? Help me please!

The EK was found in Italy so the soldier changed his unit but he kept his old EK as usual.

Interesting Ekm. I think Dschop is correct but it did cross my mind that it might have referred to 4 Instandsetzung / Repair Kompanie. But I don't have any evidence that there was such a unit attached to this one. So Infanterie it is. Nice find.
