I'm sorry, the second one was the 472nd.
Oh, my mistake sorry,
here is info for it Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 472 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht
Yup, the Lexikon is a wonderfully useful site, which is why we specifically posted a sticky (permanent) thread for it near the top- anyone can look up a unit easily any time he likes; and any online translator can help with the German
Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
Thanks for everyones help on this thread, I recently got two dug dogtags with the information posted so i'm just trying to find out where these units fought and where they were stationed, the sight given to me is great, just need to translate, I'll figure it out, thanks again, this is truly a great forum.
Well those are replacement units, not field units so you won't necessarily get information like that- the various field units a given replacement unit supplied is only a paper association and even then there were transfers and such that moved soldiers around. If you know where the discs were found, that'll help if you can find an appropriate field unit that was in that location, however that mainly only works when the location is someplace significant...
Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
Thanks for the information.
