    The 26th Construction Battalion was mobilized on August 26, 1939 in Landsberg an der Warthe, in Military District III . The battalion was raised from RAD Group 86 as an army force. Initially, the battalion was deployed in southern Poland with the 10th Army . At the end of 1939 the battalion was transferred back to military district III . On January 4, 1940, the battalion in Military District III was reassigned to the Wehrmacht's Construction Battalion 26 , with the surrender of the RAD leaders . After that, the battalion was transferred to the west. At the beginning of the French campaign the battalion was part of the V Army Corps in the Fourth Armyin action. After the French campaign, the battalion was subordinate to the commander of Bautruppen 24 and was deployed in northern France in the area of ​​the naval commander of northern France . On December 27, 1940, the battalion was reorganized as the 26th Bridge Construction Battalion . Later the battalion was deployed to the east. In the eastern campaign, the battalion was deployed in southern Russia. The battalion was also deployed in the Don arc. On August 19, 1943, the battalion was renamed Pioneer Bridge Battalion 26 . In 1944 the battalion became part of Army Group North Ukrainedeployed. The battalion was deployed at Vinnitsa and Kamenets Podolsk. At the end of 1944 the battalion was deployed near Tarnow in Galicia. In 1945 the battalion was deployed to the 17th Army in Upper Silesia.

    Replacement troops for the battalion was initially the Bau-Ersatz-Bataillon 3 . In 1941, the bridge construction replacement battalion 4 took over this task.
