Definitive Thread M35 Gymnasterka
Hello,
Following the interesting thread on M 35 gym pockets :
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/unifo...kets-365396-2/
it was agreed a full M35 gym tread might be of global interest. So here it is.
First we need to distinguish Regular M35 from others, M28, NKVD or train Gym (…) that could be by themselves interesting thread.
So basically, if my understanding is correct we have a troop and officer M35 Gym
TROUP:
- It has a collar. This collar receive the color rank from 35 to 41. It then became a kaki in 41 (Prikaz 251, Aug 1st) but was mostly not use driving many gym to get no insignia.
- In 43 (Prikaz 25, Jan 15th) many Gym were just added the new pogonies.
- The gym as the front buttons hidden (By opposition to M28)
- Pockets are square and place on both side. Some gym used in Artillery seems to have only one pocket.
- Buttons are black at first but changed to copper at some points to be defined.
- Elbow are re enforced
Here are examples
M35
M35-43
OFFICERS:
They are similar to the troop except:
- Piping on collar and sleeves. They will disappear in 1941 (Prikaz 261, Aug 3d)
- An additional sleeve ranking on the bottom of each sleeve that will disappear on August 41, 1th.
- Pockets have slap
- No elbow protection
- Buttons are originally in copper
Here is a post 41 example. It was reused by german so button were changed.
I hope this will be of interest and will lead to a good thread. A lot still need to be learnt on the subject.
If you agree, I would suggest staying on the Standard M35 in this thread.
If question arise on non-conventional Gym (NKVD, Transport, Tropical…) we may create another thread and create a link in both thread to ease the retrieval of such information.
What do you think?
Best regards
Bruno

Hello Natjer
Difficult to tell.
It isn't purely a standard M35 but it is very close.
The colar do not meet all the standard construction criteria. That said the collar tab seems to show a late production as they are not M35 but Kaki colar. On that extend the metal colar device should be kaki and not colored (Only with colored M35 colar tab)
Is there an internal id Pocket on the left Pocket? I do not see trace of sewing on the reverse photo you took
Is it possible to get a picture of the front buttons please?
Any stamp?
Hope this help but we will need other experts view on this one as I am not familiar with it
Best regards
Bruno

Hi. This may be a double post because my first version appears to have evaporated. There are no internal pockets inside the tunic or pockets. There are no stamps. The devices were added by me and are not original to the garment. The buttons are four holed and look like bakelite. The posted pictures sum up this gym.

Hi ,
looks pretty old but in my opinion this is not military, may be a public service ??

Shown in post #2, is a rare type - simplified version, made by regualtions of 1941 year, the tabs are factory applied, same cloth as a base gimnasterka. Seen examples was allways a pea-green color. But most of them never seen any of collar insignia.

Hi Dimas,
looking at these pictures that blouse was never green color. Manufacturing is simplified at the inner pocket and seam of the collar
but not at the chest slot ??
We can also observe the very short length .
Can be Natjer can make a photo of the elbows ?

We can also observe the very short length .
I have seen, own, and owned a few (M35 & M43) that have had the "skirt" shortened.
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam!

Hello,
I thought this fahion of shortening the gyms was late and mostly post war?
What do you think?
