I own examples with those type of braided edgings - even the color appears to be the same. I believe they are good Dom, and I agree with your "German made" insinuation.

    Hello,

I have examples from this stocks in my collection also.

I would like to know why are them german manufacture.

Unlike german made caps for the Red Army, nothing -in my opinion- betrays german workmanship.

The first one with the body and bindings made of cotton tape seems rather standard: I have three pairs from different sources (France, Spain, USA) obtained during a five year timespan with little differences in backing but overall same style.

As for the technical / chemical service ones, they are indeed made from german material, but couldn'y it be possible that they were wartime made in Russia from captured german materials?

I suppose they captured a pretty good deal of german fabric when they overrun Kiev and other cities of western Ukraine. I have seen once a Gymnasterka made with grigio-verde Italian feldgrau type summer fabric, exactly like the one commonly found at pattern 1940 Italian summer weight tunics for mainland use. I assume this was german captured fabric in 1943 and sent to some Ukrainian / Polish workshop, and then <<liberated>> by the soviets.

returning to the boards, my example is made of a blck backing, where two strips of silver lace have been sewn allowing a space in between for the vertical junior ranks stripe.
