    Default Berndorfer helmet - original????

    Hi everyone,

I stumbled on this one. It looks like a Berndorfer helmet used by the K.U.K. I asked the seller if there are any marking. There are none. Also he stated that it was a second pattern. I never seen or heared about a second pattern Berndorfer. The double rivets are not WW1 I think. It looks like a re-issue. Maybe used in WW2 with the leather chinstraps. I have seen plastic one used by police Hungary (I think).

What do you think? Original or not. Very bad photo's, but it the first impression.

    Cheers Paul

There is no refence to a 'second pattern' in the books I have.

This link shows a helmet very similar to this with additional chinstrap rivets and split pin liner fittings. It's noted as a reissued by Czechs.

    Thanks Steve,

The rivets look indeed similar. The model with double rivets is an original without the venthole on the top. Looks like a re-issue version used by the Tsjech resistance in WW2. Or Tsjech resistance against the Austrians??

    Hi Paul,
To me the link to Czech resistance may be something lost in translation. After looking a bit deeper the liner and strap fixings look the same as the Czech Vz20, so that may help with the time period of post WWI to the 1930s. Personally I would think this is a conversion of the newly independent Czechoslovakia.

Still a nice shell if the price is right.
