    Then the bare guard should be rusted also. So all the bases are covered other than oxidation? Star button, hand grooves going away from the edge, no dark wood handles, etc. Not a reason in my opinion to disregard this at least the knife.

    As an example here is a 100% original g98 sling I have 100 years old, is it too supple?
    Things are stored many different ways in a hundred years.

    IMO a original and very nice knife
    But if it is a fake soon will appear a lot in the web

    I haven't commented on this thread until now but, I don't like the appearance of the wood on this example.
    The color and texture appear off to me.
    If I saw this one up for sale, I would not pursue it.
    As well as what the others have posted.

    Let's compare apples to apples, that is oak. In 1916 the German army went from walnut, oak, and birch, according to availability (G98 collectors see this in the stocks, either walnut or birch).     On a previous post you even said walnut, but its oak.
