    Hello everyone.

Normally I lurk in the Third Reich documents area, but wanted to post this here because of the subject matter.

I have a Wehrpass to a soldier who served from 1901 onwards, but I'm struggling with some of the pre WW1 and WW1 Unit and Rank abbreviations and the award dated 18.10.1910. I was hoping someone with more experience of this time period could help or point me in the right direction.

28.1.1918 - Z (Zum?) Kriegsministerium Kdtr (Kommandantur) (The Ministry of War)

    Will.

    Hi Will,

my pleasure and thank you for the conformation of his name. I can add that Herr Meyer entered the 9th company of GGR 3 as a "two year volunteer" on 17 October 1901 and took his oath of allegiance some five weeks later on 23 November 1901. He was a Verwaltungs-Amtmann at the Reich institute for employment and unemployment benefits in the late twenties.

What was he doing in WW2?

    Kind regards
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn.

Once again, I really appreciate you taking the time to have a look at this.

Can I ask where you found this excellent information please.

There are no service entries for WW2 and unfortunately the only clues in there Wehrpass are -

According to the entry on page 3 section 8, it looks like he was a Civil Servant (Regierungsrat), which would fit in with his job at the Reich institute for employment and unemployment benefits.

    Regierungsrat (Deutschland) – Wikipedia.

    page 26 -

Heeres ärztlich untersucht am 21.9.1939 (Army medically examined on September 21, 1939)

    Page 36 -

Ubergeführt in die Landwehr I 1939 (Transferred to the Landwehr I 1939)

I haven't properly looked at the Wehrpass Notiz (Muster F - 30.3.1942), but I can see on the für line - Inf (Intendantur?) Lehr, so maybe he was a sort of trainer or teacher for the Intendantur role?

    Kind regards,

    Will

    Hi Will,

The old hand writing can be a bit of a chore; it actually says “für Herr Intend.Sekr. a.D.”

Please drop me a pm with your email address and I will send you the stuff I have on him.

    Kind regards
    Glenn

    Will,

    further to Herr Meyer;

he was still listed in the 1943 Berlin address book as a Regierungsrat, living at Wichertstraße 8. The record of his death is to be found at Ancestry.de. He died at the municipal hospital in Berlin Pankow on 20 November 1955.

    Kind regards
    Glenn
