    Default Leather Belt Help Please

I picked up this rough condition belt and buckle over the weekend. The buckle was a standard German Imperial buckle in rough condition. The belt is not much better but I have not seen another example with the additional loop riveted on when searching. I have not even been able to confirm German but it looks like such. I have tried a couple of time without success. I assumed it was a dress or parade belt for dress sword but could not confirm. Any and all thoughts are appreciated. Apologies for the poor lighting in the pics.

No clue John but the leather appears to be different on the loop vs the belt. Or is it just my eyes. Any thoughts to this being added at another time?

Could be Map? I have no clue and could not find any other examples or a reason why it was added other than parade sword. It was added long ago with correct rivets IMHO.

    Hi John,
I found these pictures on that other forum. One person commented that
he had seen other similar modifications before. No mention was made of
a sword. The thought was it was just a convenient holder for a tool of
    some sort.

    the one pictured IS German.

I don't know of anyone who wear this type of belt and have a sword. Enlisted men who wore swords used the mounted belt and an officer wouldn't have this type of belt. I'd go with the tool idea.

The belt is a standard issue belt that has been repaired and altered for different use though time

It's an interesting question. I think the tool attachment is most likely, and possibly a WW1 modification. Obviously finding such belts are not highly common so the modification was not widespread. This might suggest it related to a specialist group within the military such as the pioneers. Advertising the oddity hopefully will bring some light on the question.

Thank you for the replies. The attachment looks peior done to my eyes along with the metal rivets. I have not found anything similar.
