Default M16 camo helmet and gasmask canister - Souvenirs from Verdun

    Hi all,

Just got back from an impressive trip to the Somme region and Verdun. Bought me an early gasmask canister ( with instructions and a set of reserve lenses) and a M16 camo helmet shell - Q66. Both found at Verdun. I think there I see traces of a decal on the helmet. Could be a machinegunners helmet.

I would like to share these online. Hope you like the items.

Two good relics... survivors of one of the bloodiest battles of the Great War. A truly terrible place... I visited there in 1969, and again in 1970.

    Cheers,

Nice pick ups. Don't think that is an outline of a "decal" IMHO. Although from these photos I see no red flags on the camo itself.

Further, there were no MG "decals". These were hand painted and are also extremely highly faked. I know there is a thread or two here on them.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

    Congratulations!

Two very nice pieces. Nice relic camo in a larger size but I agree with MAP regarding the insignia. Looks like the two vent lugs were filled as was quite common to keep out the cold air but also stop the whistling that they were said to cause.

Your can is an early M.16 Bereitschaftsbuchse and is less commonly seen so something nice to have.

As gentlemen we don't talk money. But it was not expensive and worth the price. As for the painted decal, it was a remote thought and is almost not visible.

    Thx for your comments.

Thx. I will check the MG 'decal' thread out.

I have been to the memorial in Thiepval and the one at Verdun. So many young lives destroyed. It's important to keep the history alive to honor all these men and women and not let history repeat itself.

    Cheers,

Look at the patina on that camo helmet! It actually looks a 100 years old. There's a lesson there.

    He guys,

What do you think. Should I put in an original M16 or M17 liner in this helmet?? Or keep it untouched.
