I found this ammo box years ago in a barn in Normandy.
I think this could be aWW1 German maxim machine gun ammo box I am not sure any info would be great.

This must be a super rare ammo box if no one knows.

Looks a lot like MG08 boxes for two belts of 250 x 7.92mm, but not exactly the same. The locking rig is different. Maybe a model for use in static positions like forts / bunkers?
Does it have a central divider inside along the length, or evidence of one having been removed?
The central divider has been removed.
I always thought it was from ww1 but maybe it is from ww2.
It came out of the same farm where I got my 2 panther ammo box.

I would think WW1 also, never seen one quite the same though. Enigmatic little bugger.
Chris...tricky one this, I have checked my references and coupled with the fact I have not seen one of this particular construction to date, I can personally shed no light upon it...sorry. That does not mean that it did not exist in the Imperial armouries....and may well be a "static" position ammo box in a Festung ! as suggested....or there again it may not be of Imperial German origin, could be later......
Prost ! Steve.
Thank you steve for look at it and for doing research on it.
I think I found it MG 08 ammo box.

I think the lock system is a old repair.
