Hi friends i would like to show you my new saber M 1861. A saber was found by a member of my family during construction work in austria. The owner of the house was not interested in the saber, so He sold it to my uncle for a fraction of the actual price. It was not yet clear from the photo my had uncle sent me that the saber was made of damask steel. Therefore i am very happy!!! The text on the saber is : Das officiers = corps des infanterie regiment, Seinem besten schutzen 1908, manufacturers : weyersberg & stamm solingen eisenhauer, Carl Grasser Hof Waffenfabrik Wien 13. I Hope you like IT, thanks in advance for each comment Attachment 1430735My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861My new damascus sabre M1861

Nice old sword. Just imagine how that blade would have looked when new.

What an amazing find Kekel. More correctly it's an Austro-Hungarian model 1861 officer's sabre. This one's a top of the line private purchase sword, and type used by cavalry and infantry officers. As you say, an etched damascus blade (not uncommon, but extra cost) by Weyersberg & Stamm, an old Solingen name with obvious links to Gebruder Weyersberg of WK & C. This firm seems to have disappeared around 1914. They did also make bayonets for Prussia and Bavaria. Carl Grasser would be the distributor based in Wien. A very nice sword.
