Is this Silver gilt? It would put this as a war time made piece. And a W would I think indicate it being a Wagner and the numbers are 938 which is the silver content. But I'm NOT aware that Wagner use the Godet style Pie shape for the suspension ring. Only the Baroque style. I'm probably missing something if this is an original award. I'm no pro.

On the last PLM posted.
The style of the eagles would indicate a "Rothe" made piece.
Having it marked with a "W" is a big red flag IMO.
I am no expert on these by any sense of the imagination. I would really
suggest posting it on WAF or GMIC to get better, more educated opinions.

I noticed too that the eagles were different than Wagners. but didn't know if it matched other makers.

It depends on the black and white film used by the photographer. There is something called Orthochromatic effect, making the blue spectrum appear very light colored, almost white

Orthochromatic
Thank you Michael. Here is an example of orthochromatic film effect on early b&w photography. This might explain the light colored PLMs that appear on b&w photos.

Thanks. Good article but so much better to have this chart.
Is this mostly for glass plate photos? Or early paper based photos too?
