    Default Prussian Pickelhaube Plate

    Hello folks.

I recently picked up this Prussian line infantry pickelhaube plate. I don't know much about these, and I do know reproductions exist. I was hoping those who know their Imperial German onions could help me determine its authenticity. The details looked a little soft to me in the seller's photos, but it looks much better in hand.

As I understand it, the grey paint indicates this is a mid- to late-war plate. I've read the loops on the reverse for attachment to the helmet should be fixed in place with gunmetal solder, which these appear to be. There is a repair to one of the loops, apparently with some sort of glue. If it were a reproduction, I wonder why someone would bother fixing it.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

It appears to be light rust, but as far as I can tell it's no longer active.

I'm no pro but it looks like the one on mine.

Thanks for the link! Looking at the examples posted there, my plate appears to have come from a Model 1915 helmet. That’s more than I knew this time yesterday!

Sorry to say, but I am not sure!
Pic's aren't good enough to see all details...
But the loops seems to be bigger then originals.
And I do get the feeling it is a galvoplast due to minor pebbles I think to see on front and back side...

Examining it up close, I can see what you're talking about. The whole thing does have a weirdly shiny look to it, and it's quite ill-defined around the edges. Ah well, it only cost me 25 quid. Thanks for putting things straight!

Into the Chest of Crap it goes!
