The answer to the question would be generally no, i dont think so.
Regarding your example, i think that is just a normal pickelhaube corpus. Probably a private purchase and because of that no Stamps.
Adravor,
I can see traces of a firebrigade crest in the inside of the dome. Also on the backside. I have a Saxon pickelhaube with the same traces of an firebrigade crest stamped in 1917. So I was wondering.
What do you think of the pickelhaube in general. Do you think it is worthwile?
Cheers Paul
I dont see the traces of the firebrigade crest, could you show where exactly you see it? As said, i have never heard of such a practice, and personally i think that would be unlikely... but i´m no expert.
I dont know if 1917 Pickelhaubes where still being produced, i would assume not as the Steelhelmet was introduced 1916?
The pickelhaube itself looks nice, the missing liner has to effect price, but everything else looks to be in nice, good condition.
Funny thing is that it is coming with a French WW1 liner that is loose but fits. I think I'll get it anyway and put in a original German liner and put this liner in a French helmet I have laying around. I've seen a similar helmet, private purchase for a one year volunteer. Also no markings. Very nice one.
I'll go for it anyway.
Cheers Paul
Being a Guards helmet it is very unlikely that they would use the body of a fireman's helmet to make it. I know that after the war they took surplus Army helmets and made fireman's out of them. Also at the start of the war some police helmets were issued to troops to make up for a shortage of helmets (these police helmets were unaltered). Chin strap and cockades are not correct, the way they are mounted.
A helmet like this I would want some type of Kammerstempel on it.
Ooh yes, a Kammerstamp would be very nice. But I've seen some private purchase helmets like this without any stamps. So for the time being it's fine. I'll investigate when the helmet arrives. The Kokardes will be replaced by correct ones. These ones will go on a M15 pickelhaube.
Cheers Paul
