Have never seen an edelweiss insignia with a third leaf coming from the stem. I dont think its military in any case.

Maybe a very old tourist item? A soldier could have definitely worn this, it looks to be built during the time, the pin looks exactly the same, the pin looks like some of the whw pins you'd see later in ww2. In any case, the edelweiss stands for sacrifice and adventure, so I'd think it'd still fit something a soldier would have maybe held with him as a good luck charm.

    Hello Glenn

Austrian of this type i have never seen. For collar was different , and for cap was only flower. Also German Alpenkorps in WW1 who fight on Isonzo front on cap have only a flower of edelweiss.

my opinion is that is an private tourist purchase.

With that style pin , I would think civilian . Especially on a hat style edelweiss , the pin would get stuck into your head !
