1907 Bayonet With Khaki Paint

Hello,
I've had this bayonet for some months now and was wondering if anyone has seen any that are painted like this. It has an old layer of khaki coloured paint only on the metal parts of the scabbard. I haven't been able to figure out what it means (if it means anything) but it's rather interesting.
Any ideas & opinions are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Difficult to be sure. But given that the SMLE rifle was used into WW2 and after, even the Korean War, the paint is probably a late addition. Adds the character of the piece really.

I might be completely wrong but didn’t South Africa in WW2 paint helmets and some equipment in a similar colour? I’ve seen a few No. 4 Mk. 2 bayonets in a similar colour but I know these were used post war by many countries in the Middle East.
