that's a nice find.
so sad to see this in the tip and so good you saved it. A lovely mons star trio and great with the paper with it.
Here is his mic.

Whatever its just an opinion.
On the rubbish dump! That's just crazy, not only are they fine items of history but a brave soldiers life story that deserves more respect. Well done on "sifting" through the crap to find and save these fine pieces. Leon.
Thank you Jerry for showing his card , yes its mad what gets put in the rubbish
Yes, indeed a great find. I would think he would have been eligible for the Aug.-Nov. Clasp to the 14 Star.

This prompted me to refer to Westlake's " British Battalions in France & Belgium 1914", under 1st/SLI.
That battalion had approximately, and 100 "missing" during the Retreat from Mons, and the war diary of the 11th Brigade listed 36 officers and 1,153 o/r casualties from August to December, 1914, more than 100% of a full strength battalion.

He was captured wounded? on 26/08/14 his pow records are here. Prisoners of the First World War | International Committee of the Red Cross - Details about the person
You have to follow each letter/number listed to get a page of his pow records. I have posted the cover page for his records and the first entry.

As regards his clasp, he would have been eligible but from his mic never applied for it which in most cases had to be done.
