This little group came in a period box that looks kinda official. Can anyone tell me if this is the box his personal effects came home in? It is a really nice but sad group. John Henry Tomlin was born in Northamptonshire England in 1885. Not sure when he got married but he married a lady named Kate and they had three children who sound like they are in school during the war. I imagine they were married around 1905 based on that. Lance Corporal Tomlin was a member of D Company 58th Battalion of Canadian Infantry in the CEF. He was killed in action near Ypres 6 June 1916. The collection includes his Memorial Medal, a letter from his captain to his widow telling her he had been killed. A letter from a lady who must have been the one to tell Mrs. Tomlin that her husband had been killed (evidently she worked at the telegraph office and had to do some hunting to find out how to get in touch with her), various letters from L/Cpl Tomlin to his wife and kids. His service New Testament and a booklet with a list of names of those in his platoon. Very sad but interesting group.
