Hey Guys,
I picked up this WW1 canteen and cover this weekend at an antique shop. The side of the canteen is marked "US AGM Co 1918" and the cover appears to be stamped with "L.C.C.&CO. 8-18." This is my first WW1 Canteen.
Thanks!
James

Has anyone ever seen a US canteen dated prior to 1918?
I don’t believe I ever have!
Very nice example James. Good clear markings.
Well done,
Bob
I don't think you will find an earlier dated version of the 1910 canteen as they were not marked. Rock Island Arsenal was the company who initially made some steel versions and the Aluminium Goods Manufacturing Company (AGM) made some 500 seamless versions in aluminium.
By 1918 the five main companies making these were:
Aluminium Company of America - ACA
Aluminium Goods Manufacturing Co - AGM & Co.
Buckeye Aluminium Co - BA Co
J.W Brown Co - J.W.B
Landers, Frary & Clark - L.F & C.
From 1918 you will find all of the above makers marking canteens, anything seamless or welded and unmarked is pre- 1918.
